Benefits of Cardio

About two years ago when I started going to the gym, I dreaded doing cardio. I hated it so much, that it actually made me unmotivated to go to the gym.

Listen, cardio is not my best friend. But after knowing how important aerobic exercise is for you plus gaining awesome results, I’ve grown to tolerate those days at the gym.

I truly believe that being aware of the benefits of cardio can help push you through those tough days at the gym.

 

 

First off, cardio isn’t just running on the treadmill or outside. There are many different forms of aerobic exercise. Me, personally, I like to go on the stair master for 45 minutes on my cardio days. But, you can also walk, ride a bike, go swimming, use the rowing machine, jump rope, the possibilities are endless. I feel I notice the best results after using the stair stepper, but everyone is different! If you get bored doing one exercise for a long period of time, switch it up or do intervals at different levels. It’s up to you to stay motivated during your cardio workouts.

Have you noticed how hard it is to get rid of that stubborn belly fat? I use to do everything BUT cardio to get rid of fat around my stomach, solely because I wasn’t aware of how important cardio was. Aerobic exercise is the second best thing to do to get rid of belly fat. The first best thing, of course, is a well-balanced, healthy diet. I recommend doing cardio 3 to 4 times a week for the best results.

Did you know that cardio actually improves the strength of your lungs and heart? I mean, think about it. Lifting weights improves your muscle tone. It makes sense that cardio works your lungs and heart to make them stronger. If you live a sedentary lifestyle and want to improve your lung capacity, I recommend you start by walking or a very light jog. This will help work your way up to a run or a tougher cardio exercise.

Feeling distracted easily at work? Exercise, especially aerobic exercise, improves your brain function. It will help you stay focused and perform better at your job. For those of you who sit at a desk all day, make sure you get up and walk around for 10 minutes a couple times a day to help your blood flow better to your brain to help you complete your daily tasks.

Having trouble sleeping at night? Doing a form of aerobic exercise at least 3 times a week will actually help you sleep better. Many studies have shown the link between cardio exercise and falling asleep every night. Many overweight or obese people tend to take more sleeping medication than those who exercise regularly.

One thing that I will promise you is that cardio gets easier over time. If you find yourself struggling to get through 45 minutes, don’t worry! Push through and your strength will increase. I will warn you though, if you decide to neglect cardio for a week, your cardio tolerance will diminish quickly. So keep up with it! After all, swim suit season is coming up!

  1. To be honest, I hated cardio too. And these days I do it really for health. I think that with the lifestyle we lead and the types of food we eat outside, we’re very prone to a lot of health problems. One think for sure, Cardio has been proven to improve cardiac health and can avoid tons of diseases.

    I liked that you highlighted that cardio can come in any forms. If you hate running, just do some of your favorite sports! Anyways, great write-up, very insightful
